Meet a Mechanic: Dakota Burgeson

Posted by Drew Kerr | April 3, 2026

To provide clean, safe, and reliable service, we have hundreds of technicians working behind the scenes on our buses, trains, rail systems and facilities. In our Meet a Mechanic series, we introduce you to those who are committed to their craft and hear why they enjoy what they do. Want to be a part of the team that keeps the metro moving? We’re hiring!

Tell us a little bit about your background.

Growing up, my dad was always in the garage working on trucks, and I was right there with him. I’ve been doing this kind of work ever since. Being a mechanic is what I know and love.

What brought you to Metro Transit?

I was looking for something with a better schedule and a better atmosphere. Before I came here, I worked on the railroad, where I was lucky to get Tuesdays and Wednesdays off, and was often working nights. Here, I’ve got weekends off and more time for myself. Coming here gave me a new challenge and a better quality of life.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

The people here are great. It’s a good atmosphere, and the union makes a big difference. You feel supported. I also like learning more about how buses work. I’ve always been strong with suspension work and am now getting to know the powertrains and all the other bus components. I like the big jobs. That’s where I’m comfortable.

What’s next for you?

I plan to retire here. I could see myself here in thirty years, still turning wrenches and keeping the buses rolling.
