How do you generally get around?

I don't like driving and never have. In fact, my last car was so little-used that it fell into disrepair. I sold it and have been car-free since January 2024. Instead, I take transit, ride my bike and electric scooter, or use car sharing services like Evie and HOURCAR.

For my commute trips, I mostly take the METRO Green Line from Target Field to Raymond Avenue and then walk to the building on Transfer Road where I work. Right outside my front door, I can also catch routes 3, 14 or 6 that will bring me downtown or over to Stadium Village where I can catch the Green Line.

I also like to explore the cities by choosing new locations and figuring out how to get there. Every time I learn a new bus route, it opens up more of the world to me.

Why do you choose to use transit?

When I was younger, friends and I would sneak downtown on transit, which brought this feeling of freedom that I could go anywhere for a small amount of money.  As an adult, it still offers me a level of freedom I don't enjoy when driving. Instead of dealing with parking or other drivers, I spend my time reading or checking out the scenery.

I also like that I get to meet new people. The quick conversations I can have on a train or bus have been some of the best conversations I’ve ever had. It’s a huge part of my day that I enjoy, and I have even developed some lasting friendships.

What advice do you have for people who are unsure about taking transit?

I meet a lot of people who only ride a few times a year or haven't ridden in years who are unsure about what kind of experience they'll have. I like to tell them that you have to go in with an open mind and be willing to have a new experience each time.

Also, utilize all the tools that are available to you, including apps, the Metro Transit website, and all of the people in Transit Information and on the system who are there to help. Everyone I've ever talked to has been super helpful and sincerely want to make sure you get where you want to go.
