10 Questions with Metro Transit - Special Edition - Skip Traffic

Posted by Drew Johnson | Friday, September 5, 2025 1:04:00 PM

Our Metro Transit mascot, Skip Traffic, turns 10 this year! To mark the occasion, Skip has agreed to an exclusive special edition "10 questions with" interview looking back on their time serving our staff and riders. Today, we get to know Skip Traffic.

How long have you worked at Metro Transit and what do you do?
I am Metro Transit's mascot! My name is Skip Traffic. I've worked at Metro Transit for 10 years now. My first event was a family day at Big Lake Station.

How did you get the job?
Jessica Cross on the Marketing team got me the job. I was really excited to begin. I wanted something new to wear. Jessica reached out to the team that dresses my cousins for Sesame Street Live! My outfit is based on an M&M.

How do you promote public transit in the Twin Cities?
I love giving the public a fun way to interact with Metro Transit. I help draw attention to our outreach booths at events, helping Metro Transit connect with riders of all ages. Our younger riders love trains and buses!

What kinds of events do you attend throughout the year?
I attend a lot of bus and rail operator graduations! I also make an appearance at big Metro Transit events like the METRO Gold Line opening and Transit Kids and Family Day. I also participate in events our friends host, like Doors Open and the Pride Parade.

You're known for bringing the fun. What's your favorite dance move when you're out at events?
I like a little bounce to the beat. Maybe a shimmy or a spin if I'm feeling sassy.

How has your look or personality evolved over the past decade?
Because I embody the Metro Transit brand, my look and personality are eternal and unchanging. Although I do have rainbow arms and legs for the Pride Parade.

Favorite onboard memory?
I loved riding the METRO Green Line with the preschoolers and their scooters last year.

Have you ever helped someone navigate using Metro Transit service for the first time?
Unfortunately, no. I can't talk, press ticket machine buttons, or use our app. But hopefully my enthusiasm about transit inspires someone to learn on their own or with the help of our Transit Information team!

How do you see Skip Traffic evolving in the future?
I'm always happy to help my colleagues with events -- internal and external. I was very excited to be part of the sports mascot campaign, so I would be happy to do more of that work.

How are you celebrating your 10th birthday?
Hugs and high-fives everywhere!
