Work began Monday, Jan. 15 on renovations to the Mall of America Transit Center. This affects routes 5, 54, 415, 444, 515, 538, 539, 540, 542 and the METRO Red Line. Work will continue through the end of 2018.
Upon completion, the new mall transit center will provide transit customers with a direct connection to the mall’s east entrance. Also, the renovation will provide:
- increased lighting
- new amenities
- a family restroom
- improved bus site access
Safety was a major factor in the redesign, as buses will no longer cross the light-rail tracks, something that will provide for improved safety for bus customers.
During construction, buses are being relocated from the Mall of America Transit Center to Mall of America’s Blue Lot, just south of the current bus platforms.
To access the temporary bus boarding platforms: Exit the indoor waiting area and turn right. Travel to the crosswalk that leads to the METRO Blue Line platform, turn left, and cross both tracks. Turn right and follow the cross walk to the temporary bus platform.
Where to find your bus:
Gate A (Routes 54 and 415): Gate A is at the far end of the first platform you reach when you enter the temporary transit center.
Gate B (Routes 5 and 515): Gate B is behind Gate A on the first platform you reach when you enter the temporary transit center.
Gate C (Routes 444, 495, METRO Red Line): To access Gate C, from the first platform, turn left and follow the crosswalk to the next platform.
Gate D (Routes 538, 539, 540, and 542): To access Gate D, continue walking from Gate C to the next platform.
