Armah Faux is no stranger to long journeys: from Nigeria to Minnesota, and from long-haul trucking to Metro Transit.

He joined Metro Transit about a year ago after years as a truck driver, hauling freight across the country and spending long stretches away from home. A friend pointed him toward transit.

“I was excited about the opportunity and the profession. Working with people and being part of the community,” Armah said.

The shift from cargo to passengers brought a new sense of purpose. Instead of working alone, Armah now connects with riders throughout the day.

“I enjoy talking with people and meeting new passengers. It makes the job more interesting,” he said.

Just as important, the career change reshaped his life off the road. After years away, Armah said being home every night—and present for his family—has made all the difference.

“I get to go home to my family and sleep in my bed every night,” Armah said.

Armah came to the United States as a refugee in 1995 with family, and today that support system has grown into a large, close-knit network, something he said carries over into the workplace.

“The work environment is positive. People are friendly and supportive,” Armah said.

Now on the extra board, Armah enjoys the variety of driving different routes and getting to know more of the region.

“It gives me the chance to learn different routes and get to know more of the city,” he said.

For those considering Metro Transit, his message is simple.

“Go for it,” Armah said. “It’s a good job, and you get to meet a lot of people."
