Hwy. 5 construction begins April 8

Beginning Wednesday, April 8, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin a major project on Highway 5 between I-494 and Highway 62 (Crosstown).

This will have a significant impact on travel to/from the airport and to Route 54, which serves the airport. Due to reduced traffic due to COVID-19, all westbound Route 54 buses will continue on regular route and all westbound buses will serve the airport. All eastbound buses will detour.

When traffic levels rise and we are no longer able to maintain service in the corridor, we will move to the full detour where Route 54 will only serve Terminal 1 for early a.m. and late p.m. trips.

To reach the airport, take the METRO Blue Line, which serves both airport terminals directly. Or take the detoured Route 54, which drops off at the 34th Avenue/American Boulevard Station for an easy connection to the Blue Line and the terminals.
