How We Roll celebrates Metro Transit employees who regularly ride transit and other forms of sustainable transportation. Read more How We Roll Q&As here.
How do you generally get around?
I have access to a vehicle but use transit as often as I can to get to work, appointments, and entertainment. I live near the Blue Line, and that’s what I most often use for commute trips. I can also catch Route 22, which I’ve been doing more frequently recently while visiting my mom at Hennepin County Medical Center. As I’ve used the 22 more, I recently earned top rider status on the transit app for the route.
Why do you choose to use transit?
When I drive, I have to be alert at all times. On transit, I get to chat with the drivers, take a brain break, or spend time catching up on emails, bills, and scheduling. Transit often takes longer than driving, but I think people get hung up on that without thinking about how they can use travel time to relax or get other things done.
Taking transit also reduces the miles I put on my car, which should make it last longer.
What advice do you have for people who are unsure about taking transit?
Download the transit app, which has great planning tools, helps you know when to leave, and find alternate routes if you need to make a change. I almost never worry about my safety on transit, but if you’re worried about it, sit near the driver.
Take note! Through a partnership with metro Transit, people across the Twin Cities have access to transit’s Royale service at no cost. Royale offers additional trip planning features like the ability to see more routes, departure times, and vehicle locations.
