METRO TRANSIT POLICE SEEK HELP TO IDENTIFY PERSON OF INTEREST IN PHONE THEFT

Metro Transit Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual pictured below in connection with a theft of a mobile phone from a woman suffering a seizure aboard a Hiawatha light-rail train.

The northbound train was approaching Lake Street/Midtown Station around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 26, 2012, when the woman had a seizure. As she was being attended to by other passengers, the thief took the mobile phone from her. She reported the stolen property to officers who had attended to her at the rail station after she had recovered.

“This act is particularly cruel due to the fact that the victim was essentially incapacitated and suffering from a medical condition when the thief took her property,” said Metro Transit Police Chief John Harrington. “Metro Transit Police investigators are asking for any assistance in positively identifying this individual.”

The person of interest is a black male age 18 to 20 and approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall. At the time of the theft, he was wearing a white ballcap with a dark brim and a black hooded jacket. Investigators retrieved images of the incident from security cameras aboard the Metro Transit light-rail train.
