> Read C Line construction bulletins
The Penn Avenue Improvements Project is a collaborative effort by Metro Transit, Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis to make infrastructure improvements and enhance transportation and transit service and safety throughout Penn Avenue and Olson Memorial Highway (Hwy. 55) into downtown Minneapolis. Construction will begin in spring 2018 and continue through early 2019.
Roadway and pedestrian safety improvements include:
- Narrowing roadway to encourage safer traffic speeds
- Shortened crossing distances for pedestrians
- Improved street lighting
- Green boulevards to further separate pedestrians from traffic
- Updating pedestrian ramps to be ADA compliant
- Replacing sidewalks
This project is a part of the larger Penn Avenue Vision and Implementation Framework, a result of more than two years of planning from Hennepin County, the City of Minneapolis, Metro Transit and neighborhoods in North Minneapolis.
C Line Shelters
Though new C Line shelters appear to be ready for use, they are still under construction. There is ongoing electrical work as contractors install light, heat and communications equipment. Shelters have been fenced off for the protection of customers and to allow the contractor to safely complete their work.
We know it can be frustrating to see a shelter behind a fence, particularly in cold or rainy weather, please bear with us as we prepare for the launch of C Line service next year. Shelters will be available to customers by January 2019.
