Pay your fare or you can be fined!

Providing a welcoming and safe transit experience is our highest priority. And we know from listening to customers and employees that having a strong, official presence on buses, trains, and at boarding locations is one of the best things we can do to achieve that goal.

That’s why we’re putting more people in more places, including personnel whose responsibilities will include inspecting fares, issuing citations to people who haven’t paid, and providing other assistance to riders.

As a first step, Community Service Officers (CSOs) have started asking riders for their fares and issuing non-criminal citations.

Citations must be paid within 90 days; fines range from $35 for a first violation to $100 for fourth and subsequent violations – along with being prohibited from transit for 120 days. There are several ways for a first-time offender to reduce their fine.
