Northstar commuter rail service canceled today

Northstar trains will not operate today. An early-morning freight derailment between Ramsey and Elk River has prevented the passage of all rail traffic through the corridor at this time.

Northstar customers are advised to drive or find other means of travel today. Limited replacement bus service will be available. However, buses do not have the capacity of Northstar trains and trips by bus will take significantly longer and will not run on a regular schedule.

Northstar Link buses from St. Cloud will transport customers from Big Lake to Elk River. Metro Transit buses from Elk River will make stops at Ramsey, Anoka, Coon Rapids/Riverdale, Fridley and Target Field stations. Metro Transit and BNSF personnel will be at station platforms to notify customers that train service has been suspended and assist.

Metro Transit is monitoring the situation closely with BNSF and updates about weekend Northstar service will be made this afternoon.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank customers for their understanding.
