“How We Roll” celebrates Metro Transit employees who commute and travel to many other destinations using transit or by biking, walking or carpooling.

Kyle Burrows, Senior Planner

How do you get to work?

I take the Route 21 from our house in Longfellow to the Chicago Lake Transit Center, where I drop my son off at daycare. From daycare, I’ll either take the Route 5 to the office or grab one of the NiceRide bikes and bike to work. I’m really looking forward to the opening of the METRO D Line’s, which will make bus trips on Chicago Avenue faster and more reliable.

What do you enjoy most about your commute?

It's great to have the time on the bus with my son. He's around a year old so he's really interested in pretty much everything he sees on the bus and out the window as we ride by. I really enjoy watching him engage with the world. There's a deer that lives in the Pioneers and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery on Lake Street that we manage to catch a glimpse of some mornings.

How do you get around outside of your commute?

Our family mostly gets around by walking, biking or taking the bus. We have a car that we use as needed, but for the most part our needs are met in the neighborhood and we don't need it. We live close to the Mississippi River, good parks and restaurants, and have lots of friends nearby.
