How We Roll celebrates Metro Transit employees who regularly ride transit and other forms of sustainable transportation. Read more How We Roll Q&As here.
How do you generally get around?
I generally bike to work year-round, but I strained my back earlier this year, so I’ve been getting reacquainted with the bus. In contrast to driving, I find that taking the bus or riding my bike lowers my stress level. For commute trips, I ride routes 6 and 645, which takes me out to our offices in St. Louis Park. My wife and I will also take transit to Twins games or to visit restaurants. I live near a future stop on the METRO E Line, so I’m looking forward to its opening in December.
Why do you value transit?
Transit is so critical to the health of the community. People really depend on it so it’s a really important asset in this area. I particularly get great satisfaction when I ride the Green Line because I served as the design manager on the project and it’s fun to see the system in operation.
What advice do you have for people who are unsure about taking transit?
It can look intimidating, but it really isn’t. The operators are friendly. If you’re taking a bike on the bus or train, it’s pretty simple and there are helpful directions if you have never done it before. I recommend using Metro Transit’s mobile site, which has Trip Planner and NexTrip, which shows you when the next bus is coming.
