What does your commute normally look like?
Since the start of the year, I’ve been taking the new Route 888 that replaced Northstar Commuter Rail. The coach buses have been very comfortable. After getting to Nicollet Mall in the morning, I either ride my bike the rest of the way or catch the Blue Line and ride to the Franklin Avenue Station, which is just a short distance from the Rail Support Facility where I work.
In the afternoons, I take the train back downtown and board at the Leamington Ramp. Since that’s the first stop, I sometimes talk to the operator before we get going.
It’s been a smooth transition from rail to bus. Mike Rood (Manager of LRV Maintenance Overhaul) and I started preparing last fall by occasionally taking Route 850 to/from the Foley Park & Ride.
What do you enjoy most about taking transit?
The best part is being able to relax while the operator navigates traffic! Because it really cuts back on my personal vehicle mileage, I spend less on maintenance. And I have gotten to know some really nice people over the years.
What advice do you have for people who are unsure about taking transit?
I reference the Metro Transit app and website, which really helps with trip planning. Also, the TRIP Agents have really made a difference on the train. I see them regularly, and they are doing a great job!
