As a Metro Transit Light Rail Technician, you use state-of-the-art tools and equipment to determine problems with equipment and make repairs. You work indoors at one of Metro Transit’s operations & maintenance facilities in the metro area. All work at these facilities upholds the highest-level requirements of industry safety.

Our Transit Technician Program offers a wide range of benefits
Our program provides one-year preparation training so you can acquire the skills necessary to enroll successfully in the Technician Degree program, and then become a Metro Transit Light Rail Technician.
Earn while you learn. During your internship at Metro Transit, you are paid while you are enrolled in the program.
Scholarships and financial aid provided. If you qualify, Metro Transit will grant you a scholarship while you complete your Technician Degree program.
Transportation assistance provided. You receive free transportation on Metro Transit buses and trains while enrolled in the program.
Academic support provided. Your academic readiness program will be customized to best prepare you for success in the Technician Degree program.
As a Metro Transit Light Rail Technician you…
- Work indoors year-round.
- Work on all vehicles while using hydraulic lifts.
- Have first-shift and second-shift options.
- Can move to other service divisions of Metro Transit.
- Work with state-of-the art tools and equipment.
To qualify: You must meet be 18+ with a minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D., be able to obtain a driver’s license by May 2017, able to pass a Department of Transportation physical and have no history of sexual or violent crime on the job. Low income individuals are preferred.
