Bus shelter beautification form

An artist who lives in Metro Transit’s service area chooses a bus stop from the list provided and submits designs for the bus shelter. Designs are reviewed and selected. If chosen, the artist then must provide print-ready images in a template provided.

Artwork can be new work created for this project or can be existing original work of the artist that is adapted for the shelter. Artist can submit up to three designs. For selected designs, artist is only being asked to submit print-ready images. All printing and installation will be handled by Metro Transit. Submittals will be reviewed tri-annually until all available opportunities for the year are assigned. Review dates are March 31, June 30, and Sept. 30.

Artists are paid $1,200 for each selected shelter design.

Once a design is selected, the artist will have to submit print-ready images in a shelter template and sign an agreement before payment. Final design will adhere to the following criteria:

  • Art should not be political, religious, or commercial in nature
  • Project cannot interfere with transit operations. This means that the design must allow for bus drivers, transit customers, and police to be able to see into and out of the shelter. For more details, see Art Examples and Requirements.
