Metro Transit’s Facilities Maintenance Support Facility will be located at 345 Industrial Blvd. NE in Minneapolis near the intersection of E. Hennepin Ave. and Hwy. 280. The facility will accommodate the growing public facilities maintenance needs of the transit network, providing a base of operations for the Public Facilities Workers who maintain customer facilities like bus stops and transitway platforms. An additional facilities maintenance shop will continue to operate from 677 Transfer Rd. in St. Paul.
The Facilities Maintenance Support Facility will accommodate projected staff growth over the next 5 to 10 years. It will provide space for secure storage of vehicles, materials, equipment, and tools. The main structure is more than 100,000 square feet and includes more than 125 interior parking stalls and a covered loading dock.
The Facilities Maintenance Support Facility was designed and constructed in 2025. The building will open for operations in 2026.
Title VI Analysis
A facility siting equity analysis was completed in accordance with Metro Transit’s Title VI policy. The quantitative analysis involved a comparison of demographics within a quarter mile of all sites considered and demographics within a comparison area containing all parcels around the Twin Cities region that met the minimum criteria for site selection. The quantitative analysis has determined that the selected site is not expected to result in any disparate impacts on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) populations. The quantitative analysis found a possibility the facilities maintenance shop may have a disproportionate burden on the low-income population in the vicinity. However, further qualitative analysis of land use surrounding the selected site shows that the area is fully industrial, whereas alternative sites were located in areas with a mix of land uses.
