10 Questions with Metro Transit - Marshal

We hear and learn from our actual customers as they answer our "10 Questions with Metro Transit!" Today we meet Marshal!

How long have you been riding the bus or train?

I started riding Metro Transit two years ago and recently started a job in Woodbury, so the Gold Line opened just in time for me.

How often do you ride?

Two to three times a week

Favorite route(s)?

The Gold Line is my favorite. I also take routes 63 and 74 on a regular basis.

Why do you ride transit?

Because I can't drive, I need to take transit to my workplace. Uber and Lyft would be too expensive. Some things that I like about the Gold Line are that most of the bus drivers are super nice and greet me when I say "Hi." The Gold Line has its own lane, so it is super fast. The buses are clean. When I get to Woodbury, it is really easy to connect with the Metro micro bus to take me to my workplace. It drops me off right at my work. I really appreciate that the bus announcement system tells me what the stops are so I don't have to memorize landmarks to know when to get off. In general, it is good to take Metro Transit so you don't have to worry about paying for gas or parking.

What do you wish “first-timers” knew?

It is inexpensive to use transit. Stand close to the bus stop sign so the operator knows you are waiting for that particular bus. If you are confused about which side of the street to be on, look at the sign in the shelter or look on the top front of the bus which will say the destination. Sit toward the front if you feel uncertain about anything so you can ask the operator.

Favorite destination?

Mall of America

What does Metro Transit get right?

When someone requests a stop, the operators are really good about stopping. With the Gold Line, it has its own lane, so it doesn't have to deal with traffic. I really appreciate that.

What can we improve?

I had an uncomfortable interaction on Snelling Avenue waiting for the A line with a person who approached me. I want to feel safe using Metro Transit.

Favorite onboard memory?

Riding with my oldest brother, Ian, to and from an Ethiopian restaurant on University Avenue. We had a good conversation.

Favorite movie about "transit?

"The Fugitive."
