10 Questions with Metro Transit - Kaye

Posted by Drew Johnson | Nov. 6, 2025

We hear and learn from our actual customers as they answer our "10 Questions with Metro Transit!" Today we meet Kaye!

How long have you been riding the bus or train?
I've been riding, off and on, for nearly 30 years. I’ve seen a lot of changes during that time, especially before Park & Ride options were available.

How often do you ride?
When I’m in my normal routine, I ride every weekday, Monday through Friday. I’m a daily commuter.

Favorite route(s)?
Right now, I ride Route 768 every day, Monday through Friday. I’ve always been partial to the express or limited-stop routes because my time is valuable. I also love routes that take me straight to places like the State Fair or Mall of America, anywhere I don’t want to deal with parking.

Why do you ride transit?
I don’t want stress. I pay Metro Transit to take care of the transportation, so I don’t have to. Life already has enough challenges — why add more? Whether I’m commuting or on vacation, I just want to get on the bus, get to my stop, and move on. It’s convenient, it’s safe, and it brings peace of mind.

What do you wish “first-timers” knew?
I’d want them to know that it’s safe. The drivers are competent. Metro Transit has your back.  You’re supported. I take an express bus downtown and transfer to the light rail to get to work.

There have been times I’ve reported disturbances using the text alert system, not because I felt unsafe, but because someone was causing a scene. But that can happen anywhere there are lots of people. Overall, I feel safe and trust the system.

Favorite destination?
I always take transit to the State Fair. I never drive there. I also take it to work every day. When I fly, I park at work and take the light rail to the airport, I never drive and park at the airport. Metro Transit is just easier.

What do we (Metro Transit) get right?
You’re doing a great job. I can tell Metro Transit really tries to serve the public, make the system safe, and accommodate riders. I notice when you adjust schedules to improve connections, like now, my downtown transfer is only a three-minute wait instead of 10–15 minutes. It shows you’re thinking ahead and trying to make commuting better. Hats off to you! I wouldn’t want your job, but I appreciate the work you do!

What can we do to improve?
Honestly, you’re doing well. The only thing I’d suggest is to have a little more police presence on the light rail. I know some people are struggling with personal issues or mental health, and we all come from different walks of life. I know that's not all on Metro Transit, but even small steps could make a difference. Expanding the abilities of your Homeless Action Team would be fantastic.

Favorite onboard memory?
There are so many. I’ve made great commuter friends I wouldn’t have met otherwise. I enjoy making connections with bus operators like one on Route 768, who is kind, calm, and makes me feel safe.

Favorite movie about transit?
I don’t really watch movies; I’m more into sports. And I always take transit to Twins and Vikings games. I’ve taught lots of friends how to ride Metro Transit to get there with me. It’s stress-free, affordable, and easy.
