Past studies

Network Next (2021)

​In 2020-2021, Metro Transit studied 19 corridors for potential BRT implementation. Following the screening of candidate corridors, concept plans were developed for 10 corridors to estimate costs, ridership, and other benefits. Lines were evaluated in more detail using evaluation criteria based on public feedback and BRT principles, and sorted into three tiers for near-term, mid-term, and longer term implementation. The Central Avenue corridor was identified as the top performing line and was prioritized for near-term implementation as the F Line. 

​Arterial Transitway Corridors Study (2012)

​In 2011-2012, Metro Transit studied 11 urban corridors with high-ridership bus routes that connect major destinations for implementation of enhanced bus service. The Central Avenue corridor ranked highly in this evaluation and was recommended for further study.

​Project collaboration

​Highway 47 and Highway 65 Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study

​The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is leading the Highway 47 and Highway 65 Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study to evaluate existing and future conditions along Highway 47 (University Avenue) and Highway 65 (Central Avenue) and engage community to develop a vision for the future for the corridors. The study area overlaps with the F Line corridor on Central Avenue between University and 53rd avenues and on University Avenue between 53rd and 85th avenues. The F Line will be coordinated with the PEL Study and MnDOT-led project that arise from it.
