Full-Time Police Officer

Part-Time Community Service Officers

Community Service Officers (CSOs) provide varied support services to the department by performing duties that do not require a licensed peace officer. This is a uniformed non-sworn position that provides police visibility and customer relations to the public, with a focus on the transit riding community.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) 

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university program seeking a degree in a law enforcement-related field

• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

• Ability to regularly work a minimum of 20-25 hours per week

Community Service Officer Pathway Program

Metro Transit Police will assist those with no law enforcement experience or degree to become a Community Service Officer (CSO) with MTPD. Through the CSO Pathway Program, participants will have the opportunity to be hired as a CSO, earn 12 college credits paid for by MTPD, and be prepared for a career in law enforcement.

CSOs provide varied support services to the department by performing duties that do not require a licensed peace officer. This is a uniformed, non-sworn position that provides police visibility and customer relations to the public, with a focus on the transit riding community.

Program highlights:

• No law enforcement experience or degree required

• Complete the CSO Preparation course 

• Earn 12+ college credits

As a CSO you will:

• Serve and support communities that use Metro Transit services

• Work with MTPD police officers

• Earn $28.53/hour and be eligible for benefits

Transit Police Explorers Program

Not yet in college/university but are drawn to police work? Law Enforcement Exploring is an MTPD-sponsored program that provides career information and hands-on experience to students ages 14 - 20. Explorers learn the duties and responsibilities of police officers in areas including but not limited to:

• Burglaries
• Crime scene searches
• Crisis intervention
• First aid
• Traffic crash investigations
• Traffic stops

Following regular interactions with police officers, Explorers can apply the information and tactics they learn in mock situations at the Minnesota Law Enforcement Conference each April, and at the National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference. Join us and turn your passion into a career path!
