Transit Advantages

Light rail

METRO Blue and Green light rail lines carry more than 30,000 customers per day, making them the busiest in the regional system. At most intersections outside of downtown Minneapolis, light rail trains preempt signals, similar to emergency vehicles, and rarely have to stop. Other major intersections use transit signal priority, or TSP, which allows trains to request green lights be held longer.

Metro Transit regularly coordinates with roadway authorities to monitor train operations and troubleshoot issues as they arise. In coordination with local partners, traffic and train signal equipment along University Avenue and on the University of Minnesota campus is being replaced with more modern equipment, improving reliability and reducing delays for trains and other roadway users.
