A painted mural of colorful and abstracted plant and animal forms located on the exterior walls to both the escalator lobbies.
The exterior walls of this station became a site for much graffiti since the protests over the murder of George Floyd in 2020. In partnership with Metropolitan Council’s MCX360 initiative which works to improve stations this mural was created as a temporary improvement while the station is redesigned to better serve the community. Hibaaq Ibrahim was chosen from the Metropolitan Council Underused Business directory of businesses that are DBE certified.
Hibaaq Ibrahim, a.k.a. Moon Juice Art, is a lifelong artist turned muralist, based in Minneapolis, MN. Flowers, plants, and patterns are her passions. She’s incredibly inspired by the vivid colors and beautiful shapes found in local flora and fauna.
“One of the best parts about being a muralist is taking a clients vision and translating it into a work of art. Whether I’m creating an inviting space for restaurant or painting plants in a home, I’m completely in my element. I believe, at their core, everyone is a maker and no one is boring. You just have to ask the right questions!”
After 13 years, WONDER was inventoried to see how many of the original colored glass panels still existed and which needed to be recreated. To do this, the existing colored panels had to be compared to the original glass panel documents. It was discovered that 52 of the original glass panels had been broken and replaced with plain glass panels. Below are some of the images from this process.
