About the extended METRO Green Line
The existing Green Line opened in June 2014, linking downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, and downtown St. Paul.
Work to extend the line began shortly after it opened. Each community along the line and many private businesses have added their own mark, showing they stand by this project.

The extended Green Line connects the southwest suburbs with Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, and St. Paul and offers access to employers in the Opus / Golden Triangle area, Methodist Hospital, and Eden Prairie Center, and others.
Building economies
Nearly 56,000 people live within a half-mile of the extended Green Line. Our region needs a transportation system – the growing METRO system – that offers choices.
Access to nearly 81,000 jobs along the extended line + 145,000 jobs in downtown Minneapolis. Add to that 36,000 downtown Minneapolis residents with easier access to jobs in the southwest metro.
Investment in the future
The Green Line is a generational investment in the region’s transit system, totaling 25.5 miles of access and opportunities.
Even during construction, the extended line has seen about $3 billion of investment within a 10-minute walk.
