Meet the Chief:


Dave Indrehus
Chief of Police


Chief Indrehus has more than 38 years of service in Public Safety. He started his career with the Minneapolis Police Department in 1969 serving first as a patrol officer in downtown Minneapolis. During his tenure he served on the bomb squad, as Director of Training, and as Commander of the Professional Standards Division, where he oversaw the functioning of the Audit/Inspections unit, the Backgrounds unit and the Internal Affairs unit. He finished his career with the force as an Inspector of Police, the commander of the largest police precinct in Minneapolis.

He joined Metro Transit Police in 2002 as a Captain. In 2005 he was promoted to Deputy Chief, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department. He was appointed as Interim Chief in the fall of 2006, after the retirement of the former Chief, and as Chief of the Metro Transit Police Department in February 2007.

Dave's commitment to the law enforcement profession includes teaching for the Center for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement, the University of Minnesota Department of Sociology and Minneapolis Police and Fire departments. He also was an instructor for the Minnesota Department of Emergency Services and taught in the Political Science/Law Enforcement Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Dave holds a B.A. from Metropolitan State University and an M.A. from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He is a 1991 graduate of the FBI National Academy.

For the past 14 years, he has served on the board of directors of Eastside Neighborhood Services, a social service agency. Over the years, Dave has demonstrated his commitment to public safety and to serving the community. That commitment now extends to Metro Transit's customers and employees, and the assets and property of the Metropolitan Council.
