CELEBRATE RIDESHARE TO WORK WEEK OCT. 6-10
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – (Sept. 22) –Metro Transit and the region’s Transportation Management Organizations (TMOs) are encouraging commuters in the Twin Cities to join or start a carpool or vanpool to help celebrate Rideshare to Work Week Oct. 6-10.
“Commuters are looking for more options to travel to work or school these days, especially because of high gas prices, traffic congestion and concerns for the environment,” said Metro Transit General Manager Brian Lamb. “If commuters are thinking about sharing the ride, Rideshare to Work Week would be a great time to start.”
Metro Transit provides an online Carpool/Vanpool Planner to match commuters with others who are traveling the same direction and time. If there isn’t a match at first, commuters should check back often since potential carpoolers are added every day. The system is available by clicking the Rideshare icon at metrotransit.org.
Carpoolers and vanpoolers can use high-occupancy express lanes, qualify for the Guaranteed Ride Home program and may qualify for free or reduced-price parking.
Three regional TMOs – 494 Commuter Services, Anoka County TMO and St. Paul Smart Trips – are holding prize drawings as incentives for commuters who pledge to share the ride Oct. 6-10. Information is available at 494corridor.org, anokacountytmo.org and smart-trips.org.
Metro Transit is a service of Metropolitan Council.
