Get ready for the Republican National Convention

An estimated 45,000 visitors are expected in Minneapolis-St. Paul when the region hosts the Republican National Convention from Sept. 1–4.

For the community to support an event of this magnitude, commuters can expect some disruptions of daily life.

If your company doesn’t have a plan to help commuters during the event, it’s not too late to contact your local Transportation Management Organization representative or your Metro Transit representative for assistance. They can discuss the types of transportation options available to commuters across the Twin Cities.

The convention will be held at Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul, and other venues in both downtowns will be used for related convention events. For instance, the CivicFest, which will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center from Aug. 29–Sept. 4, is expected to attract 150,000 visitors.

Transit customers can expect planned detours on some routes — especially around the Xcel Energy Center — and impromptu detours to deal with unexpected events. In addition, Metro Transit buses will be sharing the road with more than 300 buses from around the country that will be here to transport convention delegates and others.
