NexTrip: Plan your trip down to the minute

How often does this happen to you or your co-workers? The end of the workday is near, but there’s one more project to finish before catching the bus home.

Sending that last-minute e-mail might mean being late to the transit stop. Wouldn’t it be helpful to know how much time you really have before the next bus leaves its stop?

Metro Transit has a tool called NexTrip that can help commuters plan trips down to the minute. NexTrip provides real-time bus departure information online, by phone and at select transit stops.

Where to get NexTrip information

Online: You can access NexTrip by clicking on the tab next to the Quick Trip Planner on Metro Transit’s home page. NexTrip works on handheld devices like Blackberries, too.

When you’re online, just select your route, the direction you’re traveling and the closest bus stop or transit station. If there’s a bus coming in the next 20 minutes, NexTrip shows you the departure time in real time. NexTrip also gives scheduled departure times for buses coming after the 20-minute window.

Phone: Customers can access NexTrip information by calling 612-373-3333. The system will announce real-time information and cite schedule times for later trips. Since the phone system has voice recognition, you can say selected commands rather than pressing buttons on your touch-tone phone.

At select transit stops: You can find NexTrip digital displays with real-time information at Uptown Transit Center and at the Park & Ride lots at I-394 & County Road 73 and Bottineau Boulevard & 63rd Avenue.
