Bottineau Transitway
Why is a transitway needed?
Traffic in the County Road 81 corridor has grown considerably, and congestion will only get worse as population increases. Population projections show a 30% increase, from more than 415,000 people in 2000 to 540,000 in 2025. Employment numbers are expected to grow by 38%, from nearly 334,000 employees in 2000 to 462,000 in 2025. This growth will have a major impact on our roads, which already are congested.
What's the solution to get people where they need to go quickly and efficiently? Hennepin County's Bottineau Alternatives Study will help determine the best transit mode and route alignment. Possible transit modes under consideration include Light-Rail Transit, Bus Rapid Transit and Commuter Rail.
The preferred solution may include transit advantages such as dedicated right-of-way, off-board fare collection, timed transfers, message boards with real-time arrival information or traffic signal priority. The mode and selected route must provide dependable and reliable service and be supported with transit-oriented development.
