between Lake Calhoun and the Mississippi River along Lake Street.

Route 21 takes you to it all – with frequent service every day.

How to connect with 21 Hop + Shop


By train

Catch the Hiawatha Line (Route 55) at any station. Buy a one-way ticket at the ticket machine or buy your round-trip up front with a 6-Hour Pass, also available at rail ticket machines. Hold on to your pass or ticket – you will need to present it to receive your 21 Hop + Shop discount at businesses. Get details.

• Exit the train at Lake Street/Midtown Station. Go down to street level.
• Catch Route 21 EASTBOUND (toward the Mississippi River at station A (see below).
• Catch Route 21 WESTBOUND (toward Lake Calhoun) at station B (see below).

Note: There are no restrooms at this station.


By car

Park & Ride
at a light-rail station for free. Then take a train to Lake Street/Midtown Station (see section above). There are hundreds of free parking spaces near the Lake Street/Midtown, 28th Avenue and Fort Snelling stations.

Note: There are no Park & Ride spaces at Mall of America.

Park along Lake Street
There hundreds of meters available along Lake Street and on adjacent streets.

Park at a ramp or lot
Parking is available at ramps and lots such as, Calhoun Square, on the northeast
corner of Lake & Lyndale and next to Midtown Global Exchange building.
Rates and times vary by facility.


By bus

Dozens of bus routes connect with Route 21, Use the online Trip Planner
or call a transit expert at 612-373-3333 to find out the best route for you.

You can also take a bus to reach the train.

Pay your fare to start saving


Your fare is based on time of day. You can use coins or dollar bills to pay your fare but change is not available. Or use a transfer, rail ticket or valid transit pass. Always ask the bus driver for a transfer to ensure you receive your 21 Hop + Shop discounts.

Buy a 6-Hour Pass and your round-trip is paid! Buy yours from a rail ticket machine or from your bus driver. You’ll need to show your 6-Hour Pass (or rail ticket or transfer) to receive your discounts at businesses.

Note: Buses marked 21 and 21A travel all along Lake Street. If the bus has another
letter (21D, etc.) ask the bus driver if that bus serves your destination.
