In December 2009, transit improvements on Marquette and 2nd avenues will be in place — dramatically enhancing express bus service. Customers will save several minutes per trip through downtown. |
The project advances the reputation of Minneapolis as a great place to work and live. Among the enhancements you’ll see:
• New streets with side-by-side bus-only lanes
• Bus travel speeds through downtown doubled or even tripled
• NexTrip real-time departure signs and larger, more comfortable shelters
• Updated street design with improved lighting
• New, wider sidewalks, trees and public art

Park & Ride close to home
Express bus service from more than 75 Park & Rides throughout the region will serve downtown Minneapolis on Marquette and 2nd Avenues. Find the Park & Ride nearest you.
The new design of Marquette and 2nd avenues will accommodate about 80 percent of downtown express trips.
The first phase of route changes will take effect Dec. 14, with the second phase starting in March 2010.
These providers will operate express service in this new corridor:
• Metro Transit
• Maple Grove Transit
• Minnesota Valley Transit Authority
• Plymouth Metrolink
• SouthWest Transit
• BlueXpress

Funding partners
The downtown Minneapolis transit improvements are part of a $183.5 million federal/state Urban Partnership Agreement, a series of transportation projects aimed at improving traffic conditions by reducing congestion on I-35W, Highway 77/Cedar Avenue and in downtown Minneapolis.
