Meet the Chief: Dave Indrehus

Chief Indrehus has more than 40 years of service in Public Safety. He started his career with the Minneapolis Police Department in 1969 as a downtown patrol officer. He served on the bomb squad, as Director of Training and as Commander of the Professional Standards Division, where he oversaw the Audit/Inspections, Backgrounds and Internal Affairs units. He finished as an Inspector of Police, the commander of Minneapolis' largest police precinct.

He joined Metro Transit Police in 2002 as a Captain. In 2005 he was promoted to Deputy Chief, responsible for the department's day-to-day operations. He was named Interim Chief in fall 2006 and Chief in early 2007.
Dave's commitment to the law enforcement profession includes teaching for the Center for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement, the University of Minnesota Department of Sociology and Minneapolis Police and Fire departments. He also was an instructor for the Minnesota Department of Emergency Services and taught in the Political Science/Law Enforcement Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Dave holds a B.A. from Metropolitan State University and an M.A. from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He is a 1991 graduate of the FBI National Academy.
For 16 years, he has served on the board of directors of Eastside Neighborhood Services, a social service agency. Over the years, Dave has demonstrated his commitment to public safety and to the community. That commitment now extends to transit customers and employees, and the property of the Metropolitan Council.
