January 2009Commute with pedal power – even in the winterWinter doesn’t necessarily mean an end to bicycle commuting. With a little preparation, commuting with pedal power in the winter can be safe and enjoyable. Most winter bicycle commuters agree that the basics are to dress properly, maintain your equipment, protect your extremities, layer for warmth and use a good light. If the weather turns nasty, there’s always the option to complete a trip by bus or train. All Metro Transit buses and trains, along with most of the region’s transit providers, have free bicycle racks, so a commuter can bicycle for part of the way to work and take transit for the rest. Want to learn more? If your employees are looking for more information on safe winter bicycling, your local Transportation Management Organization (TMO) can help. TMOs can arrange a winter bicycle-commuting course for your employees. The goal of the course is to help get your employees started with information on gear, clothing, managing winter riding conditions and more! Contact your TMO for more information. |
