Dunham Associates
Environmental concern for clients, employees
Local engineering firm Dunham Associates promotes sustainable design by working on projects across the country that meet a national benchmark for green buildings.
The firm’s environmental ethic carries over to its employee benefits as well.
When Dunham moved its offices from Bloomington to downtown Minneapolis in late 2006, it wanted to help employees get downtown in a more environmentally friendly way. It signed up for Metropass.
Dunham subsidizes the full monthly cost of the unlimited-ride transit pass, making it easy for employees to help their bank accounts and the environment.
The firm’s efforts to promote its commuter programs earned the company a Rookie of the Year Award at the recent Commuter Choice Awards event.
“Our move downtown affected all employees,” said CEO Katy Kolbeck. “We wanted to provide an alternative to driving that would encourage environmental responsibility.”
Now that commuters at the firm are more familiar with their transit options, they use Metropass for trips beyond work, riding on evenings and weekends, Kolbeck said.
