January 2008

commuter choice

Innovative commuter programs recognized

Free bike tune-ups. Incentives for carpoolers and vanpoolers. A neighborhood campaign to encourage alternatives to driving alone.

These are just a few strategies Twin Cities area organizations and individuals used in 2007 in their award-winning programs that promoted transit, bicycle commuting, carpooling, vanpooling and telecommuting. Metro Transit and the region's Transportation Management Organizations (TMOs) presented Commuter Choice Awards in November to the regional organizations and individuals deemed the most innovative in helping people get to work – without adding to traffic congestion.

Your plans for 2008

Are you taking advantage of all transit options available? Do you want to reinvigorate your commuter program this year? Not sure where to start?

Consider contacting Metro Transit or your local TMO office for help. Staff can assist you in taking stock of your program. We can help you survey your employees about their commuting habits and design a program that best serves your organization. In addition, we can arrange a commuter fair or get your organization ready for the 2008 Commuter Challenge – coming in April!

Here’s another resource for you! The region’s TMOs and Metro Transit are sponsoring a series of six Lunch & Learn events. Read about the first event set for Wednesday, Jan. 30.
