Metro Transit is analyzing your bus routes to improve reliability, speed and convenience of transit service.

The study area includes south Minneapolis, St. Paul south of I-94 and west of downtown, plus Bloomington, Richfield and Edina. It covers:

  • 55 routes — 30 percent of all Metro Transit service
  • More than half of Metro Transit rides: 36.4 million in 2001
  • 500,000 people
  • 500,000 jobs

Objectives

  • Integrate new services
    • Hiawatha light rail service will be fully operational in late 2004
  • Incorporate new freeway facilities
    • I-494 and I-35W transit centers
  • Improve neighborhood connections
    • Increase options for travel from one suburb/neighborhood to another
  • Reduce time spent waiting for transfers, especially during non-rush hours
  • Provide faster service to major destinations
  • Strengthen grid network where possible
  • Match the amount of service to community demand
  • Simplify routes — fewer branches and less complexity
